Dhaka Rain Causes Waterlogging, Raising Commuting Costs Across the City
Heavy rainfall on Friday left several parts of Dhaka under water, disrupting daily life and increasing transportation costs for thousands of commuters. Flooded roads in areas such as Garden Road, Green Road, Farmgate, Eskaton, Moghbazar, and Mirpur made walking difficult, forcing many people to pay extra for short rickshaw or van rides.
The waterlogging also affected homes, roadside businesses, and local shops, with many owners rushing to protect their goods from floodwater. Office workers, students, patients, and small business owners faced delays and unexpected expenses as the city struggled to cope with the heavy downpour.
Although the rain stopped later in the evening, water remained on many roads, once again highlighting Dhaka's long-standing drainage and urban infrastructure challenges during the monsoon season.
